“Things sets itself apart in flexibility and ease.” - O’Reilly, Best iPhone Apps

“Things definitely tops our list of GTD applications for the iPhone.” - Cory Bohon, Mac|Life – 5 stars

“If Things sounds simple, that’s because it is. Other to-do list managers I’ve tried have, quite honestly, gotten in the way of me getting things done. Things doesn’t do that. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.” - Macworld — 4 stars

WORKFLOW

When you start using Things, you’ll be surprised how easy it is to enter and manage your tasks. And with Things’ beautiful interface, task management becomes a delight. But all of this doesn’t come at the expense of power—everything you wish for in a task manager, Things has you covered.

• Today: Decide which tasks you want to do today and put them into your Today list. Throughout the day, come back to this list to check items off. Things will automatically show you due and scheduled items there once their date arrives - so you won’t miss anything important.

• Focus: See what you need to do Today, what’s coming up Next, and what’s Scheduled for later. Put tasks in Someday if you can’t work on them right now, you can always come back to them later.

• Keep organized: Work, Family, Hobby - with Things, everything has its place. Projects and Areas of Responsibility let you master complex tasks and stay on top of your responsibilities in life and work.

• Use Tags to assign contexts, priorities, time – whatever fits your personal workflow. Quickly filter a list to find those tasks which are most relevant now.

• Out of your head, into Things: Enter new ideas the moment they hit you. Adding to-dos is always just a tap away.

• And much more: Create repeating tasks, add due dates, schedule tasks for a later date, review completed tasks in the Logbook, etc.

Pros and cons of Things app for iPhone and iPad

Things app good for

Simple and powerful! What else? ... Sync with a web version (thats why I "only" give it 4 stars)
Nice app, would be better displaying planed tasks on whats next view
I was looking for an app to help me to organize my day-to-day and I couldnt find it. Then I found "Things" and its perfect for me. Now I dont hv a messy life, ty so much :)
Practical and simple to use. The GTD methodology isnt that easy to start using but Things makes Things much more smooth.
Excellent app, really good. The only reason it gets four stars its it doesnt allow me to add pictures not even on notes.
Tracking tasks or even dealing with projects get easy with Things. Simplicity, easiness, powerful recurring tasks, and even more features make Things an essential tool for my busy life.

Some bad moments

... It keeps crashing! And it doesnt even raise an exception.
Apple Watch app keeps crashing. Its worked perfectly before the stupid update bricked it. Beware!
Don’t buy this app. There was a problem with the app and they were unable to fix it. I got the impression that I was bothering them. They told me about the hours they spent trying to fix my problem when I told them I would write a negative review. I also spent hours following their “fixes” to my problem with the app. Until then, I had really liked it.
Ive been a Things user for 3 years (iPhone, iPad, Mac). I have used it religiously and my database has hundreds and hundreds of tasks and projects, both scheduled into the future and recurring. But I am fed up and leaving for Todoist, even though it will take me a month to migrate! Why? Cultured Code doesnt take care of its software or users. I have become trapped in software I am not happy with and thats poorly supported, even if it does work okay, syncs reasonably well (no, not perfectly) and has a decent UI. None of those are worth writing home about, and I think the shortcoming outweigh the benefits, but I digress. See, Things 3 was announced in 2013 I believe and is still only in Alpha testing for iPhone and Beta on Mac. (Makes me wonder how they will release them together.) Still, Cultured Code keeps their users poorly updated on its progress so I have little hope or excitement for their release, if that ever happens. But Things 3 is the only hope for this app to keep up with competitors and correct its own shortcomings (eg add collaboration, time-based reminders, sub-projects to name a few). But when will it ever arrive!? Still, theres a bigger problem. The poor approach to Things 3 reveals how broken Cultured Code is. I have had numerous poor Customer Service experiences and cases where they said they know of the bugs and shortcomings that plague the app, but they have no plan to fix bugs because they are concentrating on Things 3 instead. Gee thanks! And when Things 3 arrives, what kind of support will they offer? How will they handle the bugs? They clearly cant keep up if it has taken 3 years to make a beta product and a WatchOS version. That also shows their messed up priorities. More users want Things 3 than a WatchOS version. I wonder if they suffer from Shiny Object Syndrome or just wanted the WatchOS version for themselves, so they prioritized it over upgrading their core product. My advice on this app: dont invest your To Do system in Things because youll be trapped. Look very hard at the alternatives. Judge them not only on features and UI but also on the mentality of the developer. Task management software is an investment and Cultured Code will not take care of you. For me, the alternative was a toss up between Todoist (get a trial as a Business user even if you arent) and OmniFocus, and I employ Workflowy as an external brain as well (brilliant app). For you, go experiment and find out. Just please dont settle with Things. If youve made it this far and arent sure whether to trust my review, go take a look at the discussions @cukturedcode is having on Twitter. Deflecting requests and inquiries from users left, right and centre. Yuck. My advice to Cultured Code: a done something is better than a perfect nothing. Hire some staff and get Things/Things done!
I thought there would be more to this app, but as of right now, I dont see why it should cost more then 5$ the cloud functionality is nice, but its a whopping 75$ on Mac. It functions a lot like your normal reminders that come stock with your iPhone, except the viewing interface is slightly different. Definitely get the Mac trial I didnt know about before spending your money.
While I love the idea and what the app is supposed to be for, its not easy to use at first you have to read the info on it to understand how you move Things. I still dont understand projects and areas. I dislike the inability to add specific dates and times, it doesnt sync with cloud, and its EXPENSIVE. You have to rebuy every time you want to use on a different device (phone, tablet, computer). At the very least the phone and tablet should be the same app...at the phone price... Would not recommend this app based on price alone. Its too expensive to just try and realize it wont work for your needs.
