Things App Reviews

People need to get a life

People need to learn that nothing in life is perfect. Are they? No. This app is great for simplifying your life and your to do list. Anyone who gives this less than five stars either doesnt understand the app or is just completely negative and expect perfection out of everything. This is the best Mac app for iPhone, iPad or computer there is. Unless you want complication get this app. And if you disagree, then get wisdom.

Still the best for me

So simple, so nice to look at.

Apple Watch DOA

No longer working in Apple Watch— which means its no longer working for me. Sigh.

Perfect Balance

I was stuck because I needed something more powerful than a blank list to write my todos on, but I didnt have a need for something so powerful that I have to read a manual to know how to use it. Things fills that space perfectly for me! Adding to my previous review: I have gotten to the point where I have decided to decide on one to-do app, learn well how to use it and stick with it--Things is far ahead of the pack. Choosing to choose it was a piece of cake.

Works For Me

Is it the best out there? I couldnt tell you. Occams Razor!

Useful, flexible

I have been using Things for years. Its flexible enough to use different ways when work is throwing you curves. I tried other apps, but this is the only one I want now.

Watch app doesnt work.

Watch app is complete garbage. When opening it just has the things logo consistently losing and looping around and around. After 15 seconds the app proceeds to crash and exit.

No accessing data from Windows

Great process, great software, useless for business unless you have a Mac at work too. Both those users probably gave it four stars. I would too if I could use it at my horrible windows desktop at work.

Simple and efficient

This app follows The concepts of David Allens "Getting Things Done". Keep in mind that you should read the book, or at least Thingss help files, to get the most out of this system. The app is clean and efficient.

A waste of money for any iPhone owner

The reminders app that comes standard on any iPhone is more powerful than Things. Two examples; 1) Things does not allow me set an exact time for an alert; with Reminder, if I have to call some at 2:40 I can set an alert, with Things it just says I have to do it today :/. 2) I look back to see items Ive completed on Reminders; on Things once tasks are completed theyre gone forever. Silly. Also, you cant nest items.

Fantastic tool for GTD

Using Things daily to organize my to-do list has done wonders for my productivity. Highly recommend the desktop app as well.

Great App

Really helps you focus and accomplish your goals

Out of date

Dont download. This company cant ship updates. Find another task manager.

Works for me!

Ive probably downloaded a dozen to-do list apps over the course of the last six years, but this is the one that Ive used more than any other ever since I picked it up.

Great app, but HORRIBLY outdated!!

UPDATE – Sept. 29th, 2016: Well, Cultured Code released an update today, and as usual, it provides absolutely nothing of value. It contains invisible bug fixes, but nothing whatsoever to improve the user experience. So thanks again for yet another long wait followed by yet another huge disappointment! ORIGINAL REVIEW: Like many of you, Ive been following Cultured Codes progress (or LACK of progress) for years now, hoping against all hope that one day they will actually listen to their paying customers feedback. But alas, they never do. Version 3 for iOS was promised over 2 years ago, and there is still no sign of it. So where do I start… PROS - The Mac version is brilliant. It takes a while to learn all the keyboard shortcuts, but once youve got it, adding and editing items is fluid and intuitive. - Things has the most powerful and flexible Recurring Date options Ive ever seen. You can schedule a recurring To Do on any sequence except for the first or last Mon, Tue, etc. of the month. - Wonderful date picker. - I used to hate having to do the "Daily Review" manually, but now I love it. This forces me to start my day by intentionally ordering my priorities. CONS - Bloody expensive! Youll have to sell one of your kids to afford Things for your Mac, iPhone and iPad. For that kind of money, youd think they would show a little more respect to their loyal customers by implementing requested updates sooner, or at all. By the way, I ran a software development company for 23 years, and I do NOT mind paying a lot for quality apps... IF the users are actually listened to, and IF the app gets updated with substantive improvements on a fairly regular basis. NEITHER are taking place with Things, and thats what really annoys me. - A huge gap exists between the Mac version and the iOS version. There is a long list of functions that can ONLY be performed on the Mac, but they CANNOT be done on iOS. Why the heck not? This is just laziness on the developers part, and it severely cripples Things on iOS. So when Im away from my office and realize I need to create a Repeating Project, or add a new Contact to Things, well, I cant. I have to create a new To Do so Ill remember to do it when I get back to my MacBook. How ironic! - The iOS version requires way, way, WAY too many taps to navigate anywhere. Users have raised this complaint for years, but as weve come to expect, Cultured Code sits on their hands and says, "Who cares!" If youve drilled down into a Project and its To Dos, it can take up to SIX taps just to return to the Home page. SIX! Multiply that by the number of times users do that every day and it doesnt take a genius to see how much time is being wasted. Come on guys, for the love of God, add a freakin HOME button already! Or are you not smart enough to know how to do that? - When looking at any list of To Dos, it takes THREE taps to even be able to BEGIN editing the To Do. This could be made simpler. - When trying to edit Tags, you are forced to first tap the Edit button, and then tap the Tag you want to edit. Why?! Tapping on the Tag currently does nothing, and since were already in the "Edit Tags" section, shouldnt that imply we want to, you know, EDIT them? Why not just open the Edit page whenever a Tag is tapped on? The Edit button should only be needed for rearranging the Tags. Same goes for editing Areas. - These time-consuming problems Ive listed above, plus many others, could easily be resolved if the app were updated to use actions like tap and hold, double tap, additional swipe gestures, pop-ups, etc. But every single action in this entire app happens only by single taps, and this creates an unbelievably slow navigation process! This is horribly outdated functionality, and further evidence that these developers are years behind the times. - On the Next view, there is no way to change the sort order of Projects and Areas of Responsibility on that page. - After moving To Dos from Next to Today, they STILL show up on the Next page. This is utterly confusing! If Ive "MOVED" an item to Today, it cant still be in Next! The whole purpose of the Next view is to scan for items you HAVENT YET moved to your Today list. I just dont get it. When any item is moved from Next to Today, it should completely disappear from the Next view to provide a cleaner, less cluttered list of exactly which items you still might need to move to the Today view. - Their instructions say you should constantly switch between Today and Next in order to transfer To Dos from Next to Today. No problem. Except when youre in Today, you have to back out of it to the Home page, THEN go into Next from there. Doing this throughout the day every day feels like constantly putting your car in Drive, then Reverse, then Drive, then Reverse, over and over again. Gee, I dont know… heres a crazy thought… why not add a button on the bottom of both pages that would let us instantly toggle back and forth between Today and Next with one simple tap? Hmmm? - When adding "Assigned To" people via Things on the Mac, it only displays each persons FIRST name. Oookaay… what if we have two people named Jim or Beth (which we do)? Good luck figuring out whos who! - STILL no Due Times for To Dos. - STILL no alarms for any To Dos. - STILL cant attach photos or files to any item. - STILL cant do rapid-entry of To Dos. - STILL no location-based alerts. - STILL cant do anything whatsoever with Assigned To people in iOS. - STILL cant rearrange Projects in iOS. - STILL cant duplicate To Dos or Projects in iOS. - STILL no Undo capability in iOS. - STILL cant create sub-tasks in any To Do. Well, I could go on, but you get the idea. This really is a wonderful app, but it is sorely outdated and in desperate need of a renewal. It looks and feels like an app from the iPhone 3 days. Come on guys, youve earned a reputation for being stagnant. When are you going to wake up?

Fastest most reliable sync

Push sync is faster than any other GTD app out there. Consistently iterated. Updated for iOS 10. Cant wait for Things 3

Things 3 please!

This app has potential to be a top task manager. Its always lacked better sorting by due date options within individual lists-currently can only sort in the next screen. This seems very disorderly-cant keep track of whats next. Also, repeating items are hidden until theyre due, and I would like to see them visible once the previous one is marked done. I hope they are close to Things 3 (which has been very long in waiting). The one thing I would say is that this is the only task app that has excellent quality in the sync feature (and Ive tried many), and the rolling date picker-fantastic. The watch functionality is not good--the today count in the watch always says zero and there isnt a fix. I would be pleased if we saw an update that comes sooner than later, so until then, I will be moving to another app with full features for less money.

Very helpful

I am disabled with memory issues. This app comes in so handy as setting up to do projects and scheduling other things. Easy to use and keeps getting better with each update.

A constant

Sync and notifications are the great core features. It is expensive to start with but Im satisfied with it. I would say it is a constant. The app is truly solid. Everything works. The developers are slow to test and update things.

Awesome App

I couldnt live without this app. I have my whole life organized with Things. I started using it in my professional life, but now that I am retired, I still use it constantly.
